All students in this cohort earned the elementary education endorsement within the MIT Program (p. 6 MIT 1998-2000 catalog) and in addition, students could seek secondary endorsements in grades 4-12, which Craig did in the areas of social studies, drama and art. Craig did not ask for the elementary endorsement at that time, as he primarily focused his preparation on middle school, but he was quailified to earn the elementary endorsement. Craig Jacobrown is now seeking an additional endorsement in elementary education from The Evergreen State College. As the certification officer, I have reviewed Craig’s records and determined he is eligible for the elementary endorsement upon completion of credits in physical education and health education by 8/31/03. All other credits for this endorsement have been satisfied, and Craig student taught within an elementary environment. A summary of the 24+ credits applicable to Craig’s elementary endorsement is enclosed. Craig earned 2 credits of classroom observation (72 hours) in urban, rural and suburban schools including an elementary, middle and high school, and 3 credits in guided observation and participation (128 hours) in JOM/Title IX Schools his first year in the program. He completed 16 credits of student teaching fall 1999 at the Junior High Options Program in the Kingston School District. He completed 16 credits of student teaching spring 2000 at the Bainbridge Contract Studies Program in the Bainbridge Island School District and worked with 8th-12th grades in an independent studies program, along with the 5th/6th grade Odyssey Program (alternative elementary school). Upon receipt of an official transcript from Antioch University showing Craig’s completion of the health and fitness course with a grade of 2.0 or better by 8/31/03, TESC will grant Craig the elementary education endorsement.
