Actually, MPA just has control over the Hooding Ceremony program. In our program we will list your name (and all students) as you wish in the program. We email a draft of the names before it’s final for the printer, to give grads a chance to edit them.
Registration has control over the Commencement Ceremony program and newspaper – the info they use is directly connected to the graduation application, which is connected to the info in Banner, which are the legal names. They are dealing with a lot more names, and I don’t know if there is an amendment process. The person to ask about whether you can have a different name than your legal name is Lori Klatt, at klattl@evergreen.edu.
If you’re planning to participate in campus Commencement, know that grads *do* have control over the version of your name that is actually read when you walk across the stage at Commencement. This is not dictated by the name listed in the Commencement program. Here’s how it works: before you walk across the stage, you’ll hand a yellow “check in” card to the person who will be reading your name. You’ll pick up your yellow check in card at Hooding. The check in card is printed with everyone’s legal name, but you can change/amend it before you hand it to the speaker to read – this is pretty common, as often people don’t want the official version of their name to be read, and/or people need to add the phonetic pronunciation.
As you stated, diplomas reflect legal names.

Hi Randee,
I checked with Amy Gould about this already but wanted to run it by you
too. It is my understanding that for the hooding, commencement ceremony,
and the newspaper (?) that my preferred name will be used. Amy said the MPA
program has control over those elements. I understand that my official
diploma will reflect my legal name unless I have a legal name change.
