Evergreen provided me with critical thinking and research skills, and practical experience working in teams. Provides opportunities for education and citizen involvement. Some creative and interesting people have come out of Evergreen and I tend to hire Greeners in my work, but I'm glad I did my undergraduate major elsewhere, because I gained far more useful job skills than at Evergreen. Evergreen seems insular and dysfunctional, e.g., I'm amazed at how bad the Cooper Point Journal has gotten, and the Rec Center has had chronically weak management. The MES and MPA programs don't reach out in ways that similar programs in other capital cities do. Some of your questions seem odd. I hope this is worth your while. provided needed employment skills; critical thinking skills; collaboration; communication; writing and more educates on important analyses related to race, gender, class, orientation; trains in significant professions of arts, teaching, public admininistration and environmental science I understand my purpose working as a manager in public administration Informs, influences & educates the local community through collaborative intellectual inquiry Very little; the program was too global and not local oriented to local state level. Should focus more on leadership issues. It doesn't. Should I include curriculum development. My education kept me moving forward. Having an MPA on my resume has given me confidence to apply for jobs that I might not have without one. It has impressed prospective employers. TESC raised my social awareness. I believe it likely I will volunteer in the community as work and personal commitments allow due to my time at Evergreen. This is how I see the college contributing to the community. Unfortunately there are so many negative reports about Evergreen students in the media that my positive contribution sometimes feels of little consequence. I applied for a position at the college but did not even get called for an interview. I interpreted this as a negative statement about the degree program and the administration's view of the graduates the college produces. (By all means-pay us money to attend here and obtain a degree but don't even think about applying to work here!) TESC helped me ask better questions and look for answers in a variety of places. TESC is an important public service to the community. It connects students, educators, art, business, government and the community. I feel more creative and aware of my abilities because of Evergreen NA Evergreen has given me the real ability to look at all sides of an issue, feel more confident, and have more real life, positive diversity experiences. I think it broadens acceptance and creates a community of learning. Inspired and prepared me to pursue a Ph.D. Convinced me to work in the public sector and for service organizations for life. I value my liberal arts education and I am happy and proud to tell people who have a negative perception of the school that I received two degrees from TESC. Education unlocks many opportunities, and I have been grateful for the opportunities that I had to attend a high-quality, local and affordable school. I am still in touch with many of my colleagues from TESC. All of them are highly-productive members of the community and TESC has influenced each of us in unique and valuable ways. Provided a great background in administration problems -- public and private Good discussions of implications of social justice. I am grateful to Evergreen for providing me the opportunity in obtaining a degree. I agree with the methods in which the school used in my educational experience. I don't think I would have made it through college through conventional means. I went into Evergreen with a career in mind and obtained my goal...beware what you wish for, lol. Seriously, thank you Evergreen. I'm not sure. I haven't really participated in Evergreen activities in several years. I'm sure Evergreen and its faculty and students are very active in our community. Nothing really...as I said before I am very grateful for attending Evergreen. I put what I learned in the Master of Public Administration program to use everyday. Could have warn me about the bureaucracy a little more and how to deal with it :@) Working for the state government was my wish and I got it. It is a lot harder to carry out the ideals I learned at Evergreen than I thought, but I'm surviving. Made me able to collaborate with anyone and any group through work or volunteer opportunities The students that come out of Evergreen have created some incredible small businesses and have stayed to serve rather than leaving Olympia. Both wholly, and not at all. It changed my perspectives and gave me tools to examine all parts of life. As far as employment, it provided some semblance of opportunity in Olympia, but after 8+ years of living Olympia I had to get out. I moved to Portland where I have very few connections to employers. I have many, many friends living in Portland who are also graduates of Evergreen. Of the thirty- plus Evergreen grads living in Portland that I know, only a handful make a living wage. Almost all of the greener grads I know are aged 25-35. This has little to do with the education we received - as many of the people in this peer group are hard working, intelligent and able to think critically. It seems to be a sign of the times, and also the fact that Portland is a boutique destination for well- educated young people in general. Also there's not much money, per capita in Portland. The one thing I would add, is that I would suggest to whomever is tabulating this data, that they pursue an alumni outreach event or program aimed at the Portland area. Portland is a place where many Evergreen grads go and to form strong bonds between alumni would be highly valuable for me and many others I know. I earned a Master's degree, which impressed past and current employers enough for them to hire me. It has nothing to do with the community in which I reside currently. As far as my political community, it has helped shape the dialogue on race and ethnicity, power and leadership, and education and learning. I am currently working in a field that has nothing at all to do with my field of study, either for my Bachelors' degrees, earned at University of Washington, or for my Master's degree, earned at Evergreen. I feel as though I'm drowning, financially, since my expenses (including hefty student loan payments) outweigh my earnings. I feel trapped in my current job because I am not actually qualified Terrific MPA Program Work as a consultant and the company I subcontract with laid off their fulltime employees in 2012 Provided critical, analytical, and strategic thinking skills. By providing diversity of people and opinions. no I wouldn't be qualified for my job without and MPA. Evergreen also provided many opportunities for professional networking within state government. Living in Olympia, I think that Evergreen has a very positive influence throughout the community. Olympians are either directly or indirectly impacted by the diverse learning communities Evergreen cultivates. Evergreen was a forum for me to gain real-life applied skills in adult education. Evergreen provided the love of learning and tools to stay curious, engaged and give back. Student interns, volunteers and MiT student teachers serve at my daughter's school. Local Knowledge academic program has 50+ students in Shelton schools. Student research through community based research, MPA and MES has informed economic and policy decisions in our local government. College students are role models for youth in my community representing Evergreen and positive futures. Work study students support Sound Learning community organization. Public Service Centers like the Center for Community Based Learning and Action are essential to make sure the college is contributing to community. MPA non profit focus was a very important resource for my work life and for my classmates. I would like to see more support for the non profit sector through MPA and undergraduate programs. My MPA internship assisted me in gaining this job before I had completed the program. I do not see effects now that I am not on campus. It has given me the skills necessary to be successful in my profession. By providing a quality education to students who work to make a difference in their communities. My MPA degree offered insights into the development of effective public policy. As a newspaper publisher, this is a key element in my understanding of my community. N/A Would not have met job qualifications without my map offers continuing education courses. adds to the young, vibrant, educated community... The most important thing I learned at Evergreen was the value of my own thoughts and opinions. I was listened too, my opinions were sought out, and what I had to say seemed important for the first time. I now understand that I am the author of my own life story. Evergreen opens the minds of its graduates, who in turn go out into the world opening the minds of their families, colleagues and the greater world. Evergreen teaches the kind of critical thinking. I was the first in my family to receive a Bachelors and then a Masters. Although I have no children, I know that because the children in my family see what education has allowed me to accomplish, they can now see it as an option for themselves. Allowed me to advance my career in the public sector offers an alternative college environment for students who benefit from an alternative learning model No It broadened my thinking about being more responsible for more than just my family and extended family. It inspires cultural activities and diversity. Also, the students and faculty have broadened the minds of otherwise narrow minded individuals. In my personal situation, I was able to leverage my MPA from TESC to get into board rooms of many major east coast corporations where degrees from TESC are held in high regard. As a mature adult, working and attending school, never having been successful in college right after high school, TESC was a perfect learning environment; especially the interdisciplinary approach to learning which reflects how we experience the world outside the educational environment. Also the evaluation system for measuring individual learning progress seemed so much more sensible than letter grades. I wouldn't have a college degree if it wasn't for TESC; and I wouldn't have been able to pursue employment that was meaningful to me. TESC was a perfect learning environment for me as I pursued an undergraduate and graduate degree while working and raising my daughter. Yes. I am a retired state employee with a decent pension. My MPA degree helped my gain the state jobs that I had. Many intelligent , innovative citizens and a great swimming pool The questions about salary are poorly worded for a retiree to respond. Evergreen has influenced me greatly and provided me with many opportunities Evergreen gave me a wider perspective in life... Opened my narrow conservative views in a good way! Na Na As far as I can tell, it did not affect who I am and what I am doing. Easy access to higher education. Evergreen has given me the tools to continue my education for a doctorate in education. Evergreen helped me be the first person in my family ever to have a college degree, yet alone a graduate degree. It made me more interested in issues of social justice. We spent a lot of time on health care issues when I was at Evergreen and I have continued to be interested. This year, I joined the Health Benefit Exchange and am working to implement the affordable care act. I do think my experience at Evergreen has influenced the career path I've followed. Numerous people I work with and encounter every day have attended Evergreen. I believe we do have a strong community of people who care about others and are working to improve the environment, the economic opportunties and the quality of life here in Washington. It is directly related to my current employment. Evergreen could be more present in the community. It does contribute by being a local place for diverse learning. When I worked for the State of WA, my MPA got me promoted. That led to a stint in the private sector, then back to the public sector. TESC gave me the opportunity for a great career, but more than that, has been instrumental in my intellectual curiosity, my diverse interests, and my dedication to learning for learning's sake. I grew up in Olympia. I remember the old downtown and waterfront. Pretty ordinary, especially for a capital city. When I go back to visit, I go back to a vibrant, living downtown, and ain't help but credit TESC for much of the change. From Childhood's End to The Hands on Museum for Kids - and everything in between - TESC students have transformed Olympia. One of the reasons I've been successful in my career is because TESC placed such an emphasis on critical and interdisciplinary thinking, and required me to express my understanding of the subjects at hand through writing and talking. There wasn't the option of simpy getting by on test scores. Likewise, I didn't have a simple GPA that spoke for what I could do. I knew I needed to "deliver" - which is a key life and I worked for the state for many years until I was riffed. I had a good job thanks to my MPA from Evergreen. Not sure it does directly. No. It made me cynical and insecure. It creates a lot of community connections. GRuB is a prime example. Lose the libertarian faculty and obsession with feminism. Yes it has because the college campus is a multi-cultural setting. Going to Evergreen has inspired me to want to do more. It has helped me work with the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe by providing the educational qualifications I need for employment. Question Number five, my area of study was Tribal Governance in Public Administration, there is no section pertaining to or similar to select as an option. I recently graduated in June of 2012 and been actively looking for work since completing my degree, even though I have been working full- time throughout my whole academic career. I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for Evergreen. I still have excellent connections with former classmates. The student job I had on campus gave me experience to do research. The last paying job I had most recently was for a former classmate, doing research. The relationship that developed between the two of us during our program at Evergreen 6 years ago led to an excellent short-term research job 6.5 years later. This survey did not ask about plans for the future or past occupation history, it did not mention anything about layoff or current economic situation. Therefore, I do not think that this survey applied to me. Provided an educational pathway that helped me to qualify for my current work Provides various four-year degree options and masters options for the local community and also for students across the USA, known for accepting credits to improve the ability of students to achieve degrees, other community events contribute to the local community One of the greatest strengths is the MPA program that should be fully supported. A lot of people in WA state govt have completed an MPA and a lot of state govt employees work as adjunct faculty which enriches the program with people who can link students to the real experience of working to develop state government policy and administration Evergreen really fostered my leadership abilities and gave me the skills and confidence I needed for career advancement within my current organization, and to start a business with my husband. I joined the Community Investment Committee at UWTC while at Evergreen and enjoyed serving in that way for 2 years. I am currently not at the committee as I recently had a baby, and the demands of my job became contricting. I work in a full time management position and make a little over $80,000/yr there, but I also own a bar with my husband which opened last year and therefore my total income is variable. I did a low estimate on take home, as we're currently trying to re-invest as much as possible into the business. Evergreen provided me with direct knowledge, skills and abilities to competently complete my current job as a research analyst and fiscal note writer for the state. Many of my competent co- workers are TESC alums, leading me to believe Evergreen does a great job of training publicly-minded people for work in the social service sector. Yes, too much to cover here and this question should be more specific. I am a cheerleader for Evergreen. A long-time staff member who left with an MPA to seek a Phd in Oregon, moved to Hawaii to community work at the grassroots level and then came back to Washington, because the only place I really want to do is work for Evergreen. Why? It's like I grew up here and going away and coming back has given me great insights. Knowing what I know now makes we want to help revitalize people who have been here awhile and help prepare for the ones that come anew. Still, what's most difficult is that despite a solid resume and work history here, I land more interviews (150+ in the past year alone) outside of Evergreen -- it's rare that for all the jobs I apply for here that I interview. However, when a team leader calls and asks, can you come do some work for us. There is never a doubt. I come because I believe in Ironically, I create community wherever I go. Evergreen, contributes, yes, because much of my experience draws from what I have learned, how I have worked, with whom I have interacted, and how I have impacted the environment here. my tag line is communiKana -- motivating you to success, because I really believe that we don't have enough people supporting each other. Luckily, I have a big heart and solid skillset from which to share that experience. People ask me what my field is? I am in organizational communications -- demonstrating how people, policy, and paper relate in short- term projects and long-term planning. I write It was an interesting start to graduate school. Provides education to a relatively small number of people. As most of the information is demographic, what kind of question is that? You want to know how my weight has changed, or whether I've gotten shorter? My Evergreen Masters program experience helped me become more centered and more professional. Evergreen has drawn some great minds, hearts, and souls who have in turn helped many in the community build social capital. Consider the Procession of the Species, student art exhibits downtown, faculty art and former students' art at ArtsWalk, sustainability efforts, student activism, lots of MES and MPA grads in the public sector. As someone experiencing a recent separation, the life satisfaction question is kind of like: "Other than that, how did you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" Who I am -- Very Much What I am doing - Very Little A great deal in terms of community environment and politics. Unfortunately, my MPA has been of little use and poorly regarded. The debt, however, remains quite real. Helped me build skills in analytical thinking, clear writing, research, and working collaboratively with diverse groups. Brings people with many skills and abilities to live and contribute to the area. The campus itself is a wonderful resource to have in the area for everyone living or visiting here. Although I am not currently working in the specific field that my master program studies covered, the broader life skills I learned at TESC give me confidence to be creative and collaborative in my business. Rounded out my professional skills, particularly writing & speaking. TESC gave me skills that match the needs of a professional planner and which have helped me succeed in my field. As a resident of Thurston County for almost 40 years I'm amazed that TESC continues to stay mostly uninvolved in the local community(ies). It does a great job training students academically, but is almost invisible as a community member institutionally. TESC has operated as a very separate institution, seemingly isolated on the Cooper Point peninsula, and rarely incorporates non-TESC residents in its activities or social and cultural events. The demise of Outdoor Ed. classes offered to the community, along with Super Saturday are either a reflection of, or examples, of the school's drive to 'separateness'. This is regrettable. I am a transportation planner and have been in the field of planning for 20+ years with public entities. This career path does not fit neatly into the standard jobs/professions categories which you use in this survey. Maybe you could add a box for all such careers that don't fit, so we could explain what it is we do out here. It has given me the background information needed to make a differrence in my profession if and when the economy ever rebounds. Evergreen provides an environment predisposed to ingraining the need to for people to participate in their respective businesses and communities. While the survay asks what field I work in, it doesn't ask how that matches up to my education. I am a college graduate because of Evergreen, and for that I am grateful. I can collaborate across very diverse groups of persons to work on problems. I think outside- the-box (creative thinking). I am interdisciplinary in my approach. I am conscious and respectful of diverse experience and perspectives. On the other side, I did not end up where I thought I was headed in terms of career due to not being able to get the classes I wanted while at Evergreen -- in that sense it affected my future career path in a substantial way. Thank goodness it creates flexible, adaptive, quick-studies who can make the best of wherever they end up. Quality of life in terms of the social and cultural consciousness of small businesses, local agriculture, and nonprofits in the area. ArtsWalk, Farmer's Market, GRUB, Safeplace, Tenant's Union, thriving downtown small business district, etc. Also brings in large volunteer (and low-paying internship) labor force who work throughout community while students in community-based projects, legislative/public/non- profit internships, and other volunteerism. Faculty and staff are active in community organizations and boards. Occasionally there are speakers or cultural events that provide enrichment to It seems a little odd that you asked how long I've lived here since earning my last Evergreen degree. You are missing the fact that I moved to Washington to live and work in order to transfer to and graduate from Evergreen 20.5 years ago. I am still here contributing to the economy -- it just seems odd to give an answer of 2 years to your question, when my WA economic impact has been over 20 years. You never asked whether I was a I look beyond the obvious answers to current issues. I question facts as given by media and officials. I learned to "peel the onion" and apply what I learned to my everyday life - thinking in an interdisciplinary manner. Graduates go into the community to create, think outside the box, advocate, serve, collaborate, problem solve and address challenging social issues - all skills learned at Evergreen. The ability to critically think. Yes, in so many ways. Writing and articulating well positively. positively. i make friends aware of what they don't think about Student loan debt relief is a pretty big issue. I'm $70k in the hole for an education i can't use to earn a living because of permanent disability Evergreen saved my life. I lost everything in our current economic depression, and the only reason I survived financially is because I was going to Evergreen. It's a fact that the one of the main reasons why I earned my last two jobs is because I had completed a master's degree. Evergreen's master's degree in public administration also proves how much I understand and how dedicated I am to government and public service. Evergreen creates the future leaders of America who will become more involved in their communities and make a better place for our world. Perfect education for my field of work. Met my wife there & our son is also a graduate. I was in the first freshman class at TESC, didn't know what to expect, worked out very well. I wouldn't have my job without TESC. great graduates ready for the work world. graduates striving for environmental, labor, and social justice. Yes - My MPA degree helped me get a job with the State. Increased intellectual and cultural awareness in the community. Well prepared in Public Admin Not sure None Totally Produces students who are critical thinkers and have a deep abiding concern for the health of others TESC exposed me to a much wider set of views than found in the mainstream of american understanding of the world. TESC added intellectuals to Olympia; made Olympia gay-friendly; added economic vitality that has helped Olympia weather several recessions, small and large. My education at TESC has affected who I am. Improved my capacity to take on broader and greater admininstrative tasks. At the time, I was a division chair with teaching and division responsibilities. I am now Dean of Instructional Planning and Development. Evergreen will always have a warm place in my heart because of the way the school, instructors really embrace interdisciplinary styles and learning modalities. Its pedagogy match my learning needs and I excelled in both my undergrad and grad programs. Ironically this survey really does not fit my current situation as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Belize but Evergreen is well represented here. There are 2 others who attended Evergreen who are in my class here as well serving the people of Belize in the PC. Yes, there should be an other or NA with the prior questions and a place to add comments because otherwise my quantifying is more of a statistical outlier ... I volunteer every day as an example and the employer questions do not capture what I am doing nor does the income justify the value of service through PC. You need to specifically survey the MIT alumni - teachers have no jobs! I am succeeding in my current position because of my education at Evergreen. I've always worked at nonprofit organizations and wanted to learn more about organizational management and community leadership. I was privileged to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in the MPA program and now work in public administration supporting nonprofit organizations and communities in need. It is the perfect combination of life, work, and education experience! Evergreen serves an important role in bringing critical conversations to a public forum. I also see a lot of Evergreen graduates in community leadership positions. I developed or enhanced skills which aid in my work. I am not sure. No It gave me a solid foundation to move forward with. It doesn't. Not at all Not at all My situation is living in a foreign country where I am basically trapped in a miserable job, but the health care benefits are very good. Beyond that, I often wonder why I even bothered to get diplomas. In this wretched economy, I think most of us are suffering. I have come to accept the fact that I am trapped in a job that is miserable. But I must remember many people don't even have jobs. Improved my communication and critical thinking skills, broadened my understanding of the world The theories and applications I was exposed to, and eventually experienced, in the two years that I studied The Art of Leadership and Transitional Studies in my Bachelors of Arts program changed my life forever. The program's itinerary and expected output/outcomes built the solid foundation I currently rely upon as I face the many hurdles and challenges life has presented since 9/11. The ability to base my future progress on this foundation makes the experience "THE MOST INVIGORATING AND SUBSTANTIAL ACADEMIC ACTIVITY" I have ever encountered. My Masters program further developed my "professional" skill set to prepared me with the tools, mechanisms and confidence I required to "commence" and give back to the communities in which I serve. I am a living, breathing, acting and reacting product of the Evergreen Experience. I am often complimented for the work that I do in my community and actively solicited to do even more. One of the most significant impacts I have given to my community is in the lives of the people with which I interact and provide example for in the everyday world - i.e., my children, grand children, family, friends, family of friends, co-workers and casual encounters. My interactions with these people are always positive and building experiences for these people. I literally am crying right now as I am writing this - recalling the many life changing Made me a bit more self-confident. It has affected my prospects for a better job in the future. This is a very tiresome long survey. It has opened my eyes to different career options I am better equipped to work/volunteer in a social service capacity I am currently taking time off work to stay home with my daughter, but plan to return within the next year. I hope my degree will give me an edge when applying. With MPA, enabled me to get a better job with higher pay Provides both resources and educated individuals for the workforce Taught me critical thinking and team management Provides a constant stream of sincere, hard working people dedicated to building better communities You should ask other demographic info I.e. LGBT status, did your parents attend college? Your children? If so - where I am a different person than I was before I went back to college to finish my degree, and then again to obtain my MPA degree. I view life differently and my place in the world. I view problems from a different perspective, from more of a systems perspective and no longer just look at the surface of an issue. My thinking has changed entirely. Evergreen students are better able to serve their communities because they think differently about issues and people and their role on this planet. Critical thinking - that's the key. Becoming an Evergreen student changed my life path. I have the knowledge to have opinions and draw conclusions and perhaps to make a difference in this world. I am very grateful. In my job at a small non- profit in downtown Olympia, I witness students everyday contributing service to the community while they learn. I witness them in offices, on the streets, and in shelters and social service organizations providing service with excellence. I personally have become acquainted with dozens of Evergreen students at our organization who offered tireless service to our clients, amazing skills in the office, and bring an amazing skill and knowledge base to their community service work. We operate a small family shelter staffed with many Evergreen students. I am not sure we could operate Thank you for the opportunity to express my gratitude for the education I received at Evergreen, and its vital role in contributing to the betterment of our community. Yes, I am a Court Director & manage 11 staff (including 8 clerks and 3 probation staff) Somewhat, I prefer to donate money rather than my time. No. Thanks to the experience and the education in TESC, I have been working for formulating better Hyogo Prefecture. Thanks to the TESC, I have been able to contribute to internationalization and globalization of the community, Hyogo Prefecture. My community, Hyogo Prefecture, has the sistership with the State of Washington. On the context of sistership cooperation between the two tregion, I has sent to TESC as a MPA candidate from Hyogo Prefectural Goverment. Then, I received MPA from TESC in 1988 and since then, I have worked as a International Agffairs' Officer & a Economic Development Officer for the government. Not just on a professional level but also personally I met many friends I maintain contact today. Not sure. As a result of attending TESC I was able to have a rewarding and responsible job in public service for 20 years. One of my son's graduated from Evergreen with a BS and a Masters in Environmental Studies and works in his field. I actually returned to work a couple of years after I retired for 8 months part time on a project and was in the first MBA graduating class. My educational experience at Evergreen greatly improve my critical thinking which has been a very valuable asset in the management work I do. Clearly there is economic value from the salary and wages of faculty and staff but there is also value to the local community through the numerous programs that involve off campus community members. Evergreen was like a cacoon, gave this catepillar his wings. I learned at Evergreen, to never say never, and as such I have found little in my community I have found I could not do if I had the will to do it. I have embarked, as I approach my 60th birthday, a course of study (4 years long) to be ordained as a deacon in the Episcopal Chruch. Evergreen taugh me to never quit learning and never say no to the possibiliy that you can contribute wherever you are and whatever is before you. You just have to will it, and be willing to make the sacrifice to make it happen. Evergreen has helped me in the professionalism of my demeanor. My education has helped the community in looking at alternative ways in which I may serve my community. Public Administration program should include more accounting/budgeting preparation. Supported my development as a critical thinker, as a person others look to for leadership, and in seeing the big picture Not sure Nope, love Evergreen, glad I chose to attend there! i work in public admin MPA makes some value for me. none The institution granted me freedom to balance higher education with my other life as a working class teenage mother. I would not have been able to continue to care for my family and study if I had attended any other school. By the time I finished at Evergreen I had reinvented myself completely, and I cannot exaggerate how important Evergreen was in building my professional life. In 1994 was just a poor kid from peninsula with very little hope for a future. By 2004 I was living in Europe, publishing books, running companies. Evergreen was absolutely the key to my success. Evergreen alumni form the core of my personal friend network. I see people I knew in Olympia all over the world - we are an extended, inquisitive, wandering sort of intellectual family. We work in all levels and all industries (though many would not have the time to fill in this kind of survey). I was a first- generation college student and Washington state resident when I started at Evergreen. I was admitted under affirmative action guidelines and granted a cultural diversity scholarship due to my family background and status as a person with a disability. I would like to emphasize that these programs were absolutely critical in my success, giving me the funding and freedom to break out of generations Helped me get a relevant state job, although that's changed with economy. Gave me connections I cherish & maintain. Produces an immense number of valuable community members. Gives the community a special flavor. I'm retired, making some jewelry but mainly surviving on soc sec & state pension. No way to indicate this. Plus I have added several certs to my education, but there's nowhere to indicate that.
